About Us

At Disrupt Design, we design analog toolkits and produce activated experiences to effect positive social change. We use design as a catalyst for creative problem solving and sociology as a foundation for exploring and understanding the world around us.

Our team has expertise in ideation, sustainability and sociology. We combine these skills to develop gamified toolkits and provide a range of aligned services in mentoring, research, training and game design. Through our experimental knowledge lab – The Un-School of Disruptive Design – we run workshops and classes in sustainability, systems thinking, gamification, design thinking and research strategies.  



Disrupt Design is headed up by sustainability strategist, designer and social change agent Dr. Leyla Acaroglu, who is internationally recognized as a leading expert in the fields of disruptive design, sustainability and education. Leyla has a PhD in disruptive design for social and environmental change. In addition to being a TED speaker, Leyla is a well seasoned and respected author, award winning designer, activator and educator. She started the award winning, multi-disciplinary design studio Eco Innovators in 2009, which has become a leading provider of unique educational resources for design thinking through sustainability. 

Leyla is the founder of The Un-School of Disruptive Design, pioneering social and environmental change by and through design. Her work spans across a variety of locations, fields and mediums, and is driven by her strong desire to effect, create, and see positive pro-sustainability change in the world.

Communications Manager :: HEIDI SLOANE

Heidi is a swiss army knife with a background in social entrepreneurship, leadership, communications and all round awesomeness. Her role at Disrupt Design is business development, outreach, strategy, community engagement, and creative communication. She is our go-to person for getting our brand and message out into the world, and is a master at creating buzz around new events and initiatives. 





Pro-active in the creation of unique, exciting and diversified experiences, our mission is to help people make positive change. We work hard to forge the way for a new type of creative practice in disruptive design. Our work seeks to actively participate in the creation of a more socially equitable and environmentally sustainable world, and to help others to do so too.




We share a ‘do philosophy’. This means we are constantly testing, exploring and iterating on ideas and designs in collaboration with others to create disruptive interventions for positive change. 

Our philosophy is built on the foundation that design is a powerful social influencer that can and should be harnessed to create a more harmonious, functional and fair society. We see sustainability as an opportunity to effect positive social change and believe in actively participating in the construction of the type of world we want to live in.




Our analog games are real-world physical gamified tools that employ a range of play based engagement mechanisms. Each one offers a concise tool, focused on a different audience or outcome to stimulate creative sustainable thought and action. They are designed to be used by anyone wanting to explore divergent and creative thinking.  

Our Toolkits and games are collections of thinking and doing tools that employ play mechanics. Developed by incorporating design approaches and cognitive sciences, our products help create unique experiences for learning. We aim to provide a range of possibilities for developing ideas around a collection of themes. Each Toolkit contains a wide range of adaptable play based physical tools and was developed with consideration of organizations and institutions requiring focused outcomes.

We are committed to social and environmental sustainability, and take every effort to select producers and supplies that adhere to our strict sustainable design and production guidelines.
